If you are on QuickBooks Desktop, you have been told to move to Online. You do not have to. Here are the dates and the choices.
The dates
- September 30, 2024: Intuit stopped selling new Desktop Pro, Premier and Mac Plus subscriptions.
- May 31, 2026: Desktop 2023 lost support, payroll, bank feeds and payments.
- September 30, 2027: Desktop 2024, the last non-Enterprise version, reaches the same point.
- Enterprise continues, at Enterprise prices.
What stops working
The software still opens and your file still loads. What ends is everything connected: payroll tax tables, bank feeds, payments processing, support and security updates.
Your options
- QuickBooks Online: the path Intuit wants. $38 to $340 a month, a migration that loses memorized reports and some customization, and a new interface.
- Keep Desktop offline: viable for a while if you do not use payroll or feeds, with growing risk.
- Switch to statement-based AI bookkeeping: export your Desktop reports for the archive, upload bank statements from your start date to ProfitBooks, and let the AI rebuild categorized books for $20 a month, plus credits. No migration of the company file needed.
How to move to ProfitBooks from Desktop
- Reports, Company and Financial, export Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet for each year to Excel. Keep them.
- Download bank and card statements for the period you want live books.
- Create a ProfitBooks account and drop the statements in.
- Confirm name and industry, review the exceptions, invite your accountant.
